Here's How to Pray for Our Country's Today, October 14.

As 1 Timothy 2:1-2 taught us several weeks ago, prayer is the most important thing we can for our country right now.

PRAYER BREAK

That’s why we are taking each Wednesday in October to pray.

You can take specific time to pray at any point of the day. In the morning, before the day has begun. Throughout the day, in little bursts of prayer in the midst of the days activities. In the evening, at the end the of the day.

If possible, I want to encourage you to break your day in the middle to fast & pray during lunch. We all take time to eat. However long you normally take, devote that time to prayer.

PRAY FOR LEADERSHIP TODAY

All leaders in our country are positioned by God (Rom. 13:1-4) & we are commanded to pray for them:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, & thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings & all who are in high positions . . . -1 Timothy 2:1-2

Join us in praying for our local & national leaders:

  • Mayor John Gentry

  • Police Chief Cliff Couch & Sheriff Joe Guy

  • Governor Bill Lee

  • President Donald Trump & his cabinet

  • Senators Lamar Alexander & Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee

  • The Congress

  • The Supreme Court

  • And all other local & national civic leaders

Pray for them to fear God.

  • The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom & instruction. -Proverbs 1:7

  • Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, & do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, & let him be your dread. -Isaiah 8:12-13

  • Father, let the men & women who lead our country fear you more than they fear public approval or disapproval. Let them be quick to hear & slow to speak. Let them find safety for our country in an abundance of counselors (Prov. 11:14), beginning with your Word.

Pray for them to serve others.

  • “But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, & whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, & to give his life as a ransom for many.” -Mark 10:44-45

  • Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. -Philippians 2:3-4

  • Father, let the men & women who lead our country not look after their own interests. Let them serve the needs of all Americans, not their own. Let them—along with us—follow the example of Jesus Christ.

Pray for them to do justice.

  • Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil & to praise those who do good. -1 Peter 2:13-14

  • First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, & thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings & all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful & quiet life, godly & dignified in every way. -1 Timothy 2:1-2

  • Father, let the men & women who lead our country condemn what is evil & praise what is good. Let every act of Congress, every judgment of the Supreme Court, & every signature of the President promote justice. Let them protect religious liberty for all. Let them defend the defenseless & speak for those who have no voice, especially the unborn.

Pray for them to lead with conviction & courage.

  • Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law. -Proverbs 29:18

  • Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. -Romans 12:11

  • Father, let the men & women who lead our country not lead with bravado or mere charisma. Let them lead with conviction & courage springing from the truth. Let them be filled with zeal & passion to lead us, as we seek to faithfully follow & support them.

May God draw near to us & lead us during this time!
