SERMON RECAP

Great are the Works of the Lord

September 18, 2022 || Psalm 111

MAIN POINT: Praise the Lord with all your heart for all his wonderful works and words.

  • Praise the Lord (v. 1)

  • Remember his works and words (v. 2-9)

  • Fear the Lord (v. 10)

We are a congregation of people redeemed by the living God - hallelujah. We, like Israel, were slaves. We were slaves to sin and had no hope of escape. But God made a way when there was no way. He provided the perfect Passover Lamb, Jesus Christ, to be slain for sinners. He died so that we might live - Hallelujah! We, like Israel, were wandering in the wilderness. We were spiritually famished and dead in our sin. But God made a way when there was no way. He provided bread from heaven in Jesus Christ who said “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger” - Hallelujah! We, like Israel, were not a people worthy of God’s special love and were instead deserving of his righteous judgment. But God made a way when there was no way. God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us - Hallelujah! We, like Israel, had no place to call home - we were orphaned by our sin. But God made a way when there was no way. Jesus Christ died so that we might be brought into the family of God to dwell in his presence forever - Hallelujah! Behold the living God is our God! He is The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness to us! - Hallelujah! All of his wonderful works and words were leading to our salvation in Christ so that we might live today to the praise of his glory! - Hallelujah!

TGKIDS RECAP

TGKids

The heart of TGKids is to help children understand that the Bible is all about Jesus! Below is the story, scripture, and main teaching points from the TGKids lesson, so that you can talk with your kids about what they learned.

Bible Story: Miriam

Scripture: Numbers 12

Bible Truth: Moses mediated on behalf of Miriam.

Where is Jesus: Philippians 2:1–11

Consider the pride of Aaron and Miriam and the humility of Moses who God said was the most humble (meek) man “on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3). Moses, whose life and ministry is a picture of Jesus, is also a picture of Jesus in his humility. No one ever humbled himself more than Jesus, the Son of God, who came to earth and died on the cross for our sins.

Consider the humble response of Moses when Aaron and Miriam came before God in the tent of meeting and complained against him. Moses did not object to what they said about him, and when Miriam was struck with leprosy, Moses interceded with God for her. In the same way, Jesus prayed for those who mocked and crucified him. Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).
