It has been a privilege for us to carve out time to pray for our country this month, particularly as the election occurs next Tuesday.
PRAYER BREAK
I encourage you to seize some time on this last Wednesday to pray.
Take specific time to pray at any point of the day. In the morning, before the day has begun. Throughout the day, in little bursts of prayer in the midst of the days activities. In the evening, at the end the of the day.
If possible, break your day in the middle to fast & pray during lunch. We all take time to eat. However long you normally take, devote that time to prayer.
PRAY FOR NEXT WEEK’S ELECTION TODAY
There has not been an Election Day more anticipated & more contentious than this year’s in my lifetime.
Millions & millions of Americans have already voted, more early voting than in any other election in American history. Perhaps the high numbers of early voting are due to individuals trying to vote safely in a pandemic; however, it seems more likely that these early voting numbers reveal the divide in our country—individuals have decided where they stand on this election long ago & it’s on opposite sides.
For obvious reasons, we want to approach this Election Day in a spirit of humility & prayer.
Pray for God’s will to be done.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. -Matthew 6:10
[The Most High] does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?” -Daniel 4:35
Father, we rejoice that nothing that happens next Tuesday can happen apart from the counsel of your sovereign will (Eph. 1:11). It is you who raise up one man & bring down another (Psa. 75:7).
Yet, we pray that whatever happens next week would lead to the advance of your revealed will in this country. We pray that it would lead to greater protection of the poor & unborn, a desire dear to your heart. We pray that it would lead to better healthcare for all Americans. We pray it would lead to fiscal responsibility & economic growth, helping all Americans provide for their families. We pray that it would lead to continued protection of our religious liberties, which we hold very dear.
Pray for all Americans to honor & submit to the President/Vice-President who wins.
The Bible is very clear about how we should view leaders & elected officials.
Honor the emperor. -1 Peter 2:17
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. -Romans 13:1
Father, we pray that all Americans would honor & submit in appropriate ways to the President & Vice-President who wins next Tuesday. We pray against divisive attitudes (#notmyPresident) & destructive actions. We cherish the right to protest but condemn destructive protests & pray against them occurring after this election. Protect the people & businesses of our nation. Let order be maintained, for the benefit of all.
As Christians, let our honor & submission be marked by diligent prayer for whoever wins.
Pray for all Christians to possess the attitudes & actions of citizens of heaven.
Our citizenship is in heaven, & from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. -Phil. 3:20
Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds & glorify God on the day of visitation. -1 Peter 2:11–12
Father, we pray that more & more we would long for heaven & rejoice even now that our names are written in heaven (Lk. 10:20). We vote here as citizens of America, but we want our attitudes & actions to display that we are citizens of heaven.
We pray that our hearts would be guarded by the peace of Christ. Let us not give in to the anxiety & worry of those who do not know God & assume the future is uncertain.
We pray that our hands would be busy working to provide for those in our family & share with anyone in need. Let us turn from anything that defiles us or hurts others.
We pray that our mouths would be filled with praise to God & witness to those around us. Let us speak more about the unchanging truths of the gospel than the results of this election. Let our speech be seasoned with salt. Surround us with opportunities to share with unbelievers & build up the body of Christ.
We pray that our feet would be ready & willing to go into any situation or any place you call us as ambassadors of Christ.
We pray that you would come soon. Come, Lord Jesus. Let your kingdom come in full. Let your will be done perfectly here, for the glory of God alone.
May God guide & direction us during this time!
